QuickBooks Bank Feed Errors (102, 103, 324, 9999) and How to Keep Working

By ConvertQBO Team ·

When a bank connection in QuickBooks Online breaks, transactions stop arriving and the account shows an error code. Some errors fix themselves within a day; others need you to act. Either way, your books don’t have to wait: you can download the transactions from the bank and upload them as a file in a few minutes.

Common error codes

These are the codes bookkeepers see most often. Intuit’s wording changes over time, so treat the descriptions as typical causes rather than exact definitions — the message shown next to the code in QuickBooks is the most reliable hint.

Code What it usually means What to do
102 The bank’s site is down, under maintenance or not responding to QuickBooks Wait a few hours to a day, then Update again. If it lasts more than 2–3 days, contact Intuit support
103 Sign-in failed — the username or password QuickBooks has is wrong or was changed Sign in to your bank’s website directly to confirm the credentials, then update them in QuickBooks (account tile → Edit sign-in info)
324 QuickBooks can’t find the account at the bank — often the account was closed, renamed, renumbered or moved after a bank merger Check the account in online banking; disconnect and reconnect the account in QuickBooks, linking it to the existing QuickBooks account
9999 A general connection error between QuickBooks and the bank Clear the browser cache or try a private window, then update; if it persists, disconnect and reconnect
Other codes / “action required” Often the bank needs extra verification (security questions, a new agreement, multi-factor sign-in) Sign in to the bank website, accept any prompts, then update in QuickBooks

General fix checklist

  1. Sign in to the bank’s own website first. New terms to accept, a password reset or a security prompt there is a very common cause.
  2. In QuickBooks Online, go to Banking, select the account and click Update. Wait a few minutes — some banks are slow.
  3. If you see an option to update sign-in info, re-enter the credentials.
  4. Try another browser or a private window to rule out cached data.
  5. If nothing helps: disconnect the account (account tile → pencil icon → Edit account info → Disconnect this account on save) and connect it again. When asked, link it to the same QuickBooks account and only download dates after the last transaction you already have, to avoid duplicates.
  6. Still failing after a few days? Check Intuit’s status page and contact QuickBooks support with the error code.

Keep working: import a file instead

A broken feed only stops the automatic download. Uploading a file does the same job:

  1. In online banking, download the missing period as QBO / QuickBooks, QFX / Quicken, OFX or CSV. Start the day after the last transaction QuickBooks has.
  2. In QuickBooks Online: Banking → Bank transactions → Link account ▾ → Upload from file, choose the file and the same QuickBooks account.
  3. Review and categorise as usual.

If the bank only offers CSV and the upload fails on formatting, or you use QuickBooks Desktop, convert the CSV to QBO first. The QBO file includes a unique ID for every transaction, so when the feed comes back and re-downloads the same days, QuickBooks recognises them instead of creating duplicates (as long as the bank sends the same IDs; check the review list for doubles anyway).

“Bank feed not updating” without an error

If there is no error but no new transactions either:

  • The bank may post transactions with a delay (pending items are not sent until they clear).
  • The connection may only update once a day — click Update to force it.
  • The account might be linked to the wrong QuickBooks account; check the account tile mapping.
  • Transactions may already be in For review filtered out by date — clear the filters.
